We earnestly contend for the faith when we affirm, and refuse to compromise, God's truth. There is one God and only one God (Deut. 6:4). He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the God of the Holy Bible (Exodus 3:6 & Eph. 1:3). He is not the God of any other religion. The so-called gods of the world's religions are false, empty, worthless idols (1 Chronicles 16:26).

There is only one Mediator or one intercessor, between God and man, the man Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5). The term Mediator, signifies, a middle person, one whose office it is to reconcile two parties who are at enmity. Jesus Christ alone is appointed by God to take a place among incarnate man and make atonement for the sins of men by his death, providing justification by His resurrection, and giving faith unto eternal life. In consequence of that atonement, He alone is authorized to intercede with God on behalf of sinners and He alone has power to convey all God's blessings to them.

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only true body of believers in the world. The Holy Spirit is the only Spirit of God over men and upon them, leading and guiding them. Only in the blessing of God, according to Christ and the Spirit is their hope for men to be pleasing to God. God the Son is the one authoritative Master, the Way, Truth and Life (John 14:6). Belief on Him, that is faith in Him, as Lord and Christ, is the only proper way of belief for man. There is only one baptism, that is one seal of the covenant of grace and emblem of grace, the washing of regeneration. There is only one God who is Father to all Christian believers, ruling over them as their only Lord, through all by means of Christ, and in all by way of the Holy Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:4-6).

When we hear anyone say that there are many gods, or many Saviors, or many religions, we firmly reject such claims and we confidently and boldly speak against them. If we do not refuse and renounce such lies, if we do not have the courage of our convictions regarding God and His truth, if we do not stand firm in the faith, we displease God who calls us to earnestly contend for that which we are called to believe and defend.

The need for earnest contention is as important now as it ever was. As we experience what can only be described as the great apostasy, in which men grow ever more hateful of God and demonstrate the hatred on unprecedented levels, and in which many who profess the faith of the Bible are turned aside from any pure heart and any good conscience to Satan's lies (1 Tim. 1:5-6 & 5:15).
